An honest security analysis of Claude Code for developers considering it for their projects.
Claude Code is built by Anthropic with Constitutional AI principles prioritizing safety. Unlike competitors, Anthropic's business model doesn't rely on training on user data. Claude refuses to help with malicious code. Review generated code - all AI tools can make security mistakes.
Claude Code's Constitutional AI approach makes it the most safety-conscious AI coding assistant. Anthropic's 'don't train on conversations by default' policy is more private than most. But no AI is perfect - always review generated code. Claude's refusal to help with malicious code is a feature, not a bug.

“There's a new kind of coding I call 'vibe coding', where you fully give in to the vibes, embrace exponentials, and forget that the code even exists.”
“It's not really coding - I just see stuff, say stuff, run stuff, and copy paste stuff, and it mostly works.”
By default, Anthropic does not train on your conversations. You can optionally enable feedback to help improve models. This is different from some competitors who train on user data by default. Check your Anthropic account settings for current data policies.
Constitutional AI means Claude is trained with principles to be helpful, harmless, and honest. For coding, this means Claude will refuse to help write malware, backdoors, or exploit code. It may be overly cautious with legitimate security testing requests.
Yes. While Claude won't intentionally suggest malicious code, it can still generate code with unintentional vulnerabilities like SQL injection, XSS, or improper authentication. All AI-generated code needs security review regardless of which tool created it.
Claude Code is conversation-based (you ask for code), while Copilot is autocomplete-based (suggests as you type). Claude has Constitutional AI safety training; Copilot has IP indemnification. Claude doesn't train on your data by default; Copilot Individual may use your code for training.
